Champion job-change follow-up: reach past champions at their new company
LeadIQ + HubSpot
Who it's for
SDRs and AEs who want to hear when a past champion or customer contact moves to a new company, and reach out while the move is fresh. LeadIQ can be swapped for UserGems, and HubSpot for Salesforce, Attio or Pipedrive.
What you get
Job changes found, CRM check and one draft note. Sample output: every company and person in it is fictional.
LeadIQ job changes from your tracked contacts, last 30 days: 4. | Person | Was | Now | HubSpot | |---|---|---|---| | Sam Whitlock | Quarry Lane Analytics (fictional), champion on a closed-won deal | Head of RevOps, Tidewell Robotics (fictional) | No company record | | Alex Rivera | Fernhill Software (fictional), user | Sales Manager, Mossgate Labs (fictional) | Company exists, owner Priya Raman. Skipped | | Dana Okafor | Larkspur Freightworks (fictional), economic buyer | Same company, new title | Not a job change. Skipped | Draft note to Sam (text only, not sent): Subject: Congrats on Tidewell Hi Sam, Saw the move to Tidewell Robotics. Congratulations. It was good working with you on the forecasting rollout at Quarry Lane. If the Tidewell team is looking at the same problem, I'm happy to share what worked. No pressure either way. Jordan Waiting for approval: create company 'Tidewell Robotics' and contact 'Sam Whitlock' in HubSpot. Nothing has been created yet.
Time and cost
Estimate About 10–20 minutes a week, most of it reading the notes.
Assumptions: One weekly run over about 4 job changes, with one work email looked up per new contact.
- LeadIQ: A free credit check, job-change reads for your tracked contacts, and after you approve, one work email lookup per person. Credits are charged per data point returned. Some tools use credits. Uses Universal Credits (UC) per data point returned: profile 0.1 UC, work email 1 UC, direct phone 10 UC, company firmographics 3 UC, email verification 0.1 UC. List management, saved-prospect access and CheckCredits are free; re-lookups within a year are free. Exact rates vary by plan. Source: developer.leadiq.com, checked 2026-10-16
- HubSpot: A company and contact search per person, then one company and one contact created per person after you approve them. Credit use not confirmed by HubSpot.
Exact credit costs depend on your plan with each vendor. Check the tool pages before a large run.

Auth setup and mcp.json for Claude Code and Cursor
- LeadIQ: Sign in with OAuth in your client (run
/mcpin Claude Code). Do it once interactively, and the client stores and refreshes the token. - HubSpot: Sign in with OAuth in your client (run

Put this in .mcp.json (Claude Code, project root) or ~/.cursor/mcp.json (Cursor). Swap the example keys for your own, and don't commit real ones. Remove the // comment lines if your client requires strict JSON.

Step-by-step prompts
- Check my LeadIQ credits. Then show me job changes in the last {days} days for my tracked contacts from {list}: name, old company, new company, new title and new company website. Skip anyone whose company didn't change.
- For each person, find their old company in HubSpot and tell me how we worked with them (deal stage, closed-won or churned). Then search HubSpot for the new company by website domain and list any owner. Don't change any records.
- For the people I pick, find their new work email with LeadIQ only after I approve it. Then write a short congratulations-and-intro note to each, mentioning what we did together. Show me the text only. Don't send anything.
- After I approve, create the new company and the contact in HubSpot and associate them. Show me exactly what you'll create first, and skip anything that already exists.
Run it on a schedule (optional)
- Run it weekly. A note in someone's first month at a new job lands better than one six months later.
- In a scheduled run, read the job changes and check HubSpot, then stop. Approve email lookups, drafts and new HubSpot records yourself.
- Test one manual run first so you know how many job changes a normal week brings and what the lookups cost.
Where this goes wrong
- A title change read as a job change. A promotion inside the same company isn't a new account. Compare the old and new company domain, and skip anyone whose company didn't change.
- Duplicate records in HubSpot. The new company may already exist under a slightly different name. Search HubSpot by website domain and by the person's new email before creating anything, and show the matches.
- Stepping on another rep's account. The new company may already have an owner. List the owner and skip the account, or ask that owner first, instead of reaching out yourself.
- Outreach to someone who wasn't a fan. Not every past contact was a champion. Check the HubSpot history (closed-won deals, notes, or a churned account) before drafting, and drop anyone tied to a bad outcome.
Gotchas
- LeadIQ charges Universal Credits per data point returned: a profile is 0.1 UC and a work email 1 UC. Direct phone numbers are 10 UC, so don't ask for them. Exact rates vary by plan.
- LeadIQ's credit check and list management are free, and re-lookups within a year are free.
- LeadIQ can export prospects to Salesforce but this recipe creates records in HubSpot instead, through the HubSpot connector.
- In ChatGPT, LeadIQ needs a paid plan and Developer Mode. In HubSpot, non-admin users need a Super Admin to approve the connector.
